The 7th annual Running of the Warriors event saw nearly 250 runners - including members of Turlock and Pitman highs cross country teams - come out to launch the start of the California State University, Stanislaus cross country season.
There aren't many local football players who get the opportunity to play Division I college ball, but count Patrick Green in as one of the lucky few. A 2014 Turlock High graduate, Green entered his senior year as the 45th ranked tight end in the nation according to ESPN and earned All-Conference and All-State honors by season's end.
She's a three-time CCAA Offensive Player of the Year, three-time Daktronics West Region Player of the Year, four-time All-American, and the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Player of the Year. She's led the women's soccer team of California State University, Stanislaus to two CCAA Championships and is currently considered to be the program's best player-ever.
Recent Turlock High graduate Brett Cumberland will be attending University of California, Berkeley in the fall on an athletic scholarship for baseball, but before the Bulldog star steps foot on the Pac-12 campus he is preparing himself to compete at the next level.
Setting the pace for the entire race, Courtney Anderson and Marina Vorderbruegge teamed up to run away with the 1500-meter run as Anderson captured the NCAA Division II national championship in the event Saturday late afternoon at Grand Valley State.

Today will be a busy day for the Warriors as six Stanislaus athletes are competing in seven NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships finals events with Courtney Anderson doubling in the 1500- and 5000-meter runs. Anderson has the top seed time in the 1500-meter run as the Warriors' best chance at an individual championship. Both Josh Uikilifi and Deon Pinder will also be back for their second performance of the weekend.

It took 11 innings, but nevertheless it was a great victory to open the final series of the 2014 season with an extra inning win as Cal State Stanislaus defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 5-4, Friday afternoon.
