The American Little League Majors Twins' eight-run rally in the top of the sixth inning capped off a very impressive inning that lifted the team over the Rangers and into today's semifinal playoff contest against the heavy favorites in the Yankees.
Neither the Thunder nor Owlz of the AAA Turlock National Little League will get the opportunity to compete in the postseason this year, but both squads came out ready to play on Tuesday as they battled it out on the field.
Half a dozen young Turlockers helped make volleyball history this season as part of the first undefeated squad in Rage Volleyball history. Posting a 45-0 record in Northern California's Power League-the toughest league in the state-Jadyn Tubbs, Whitney Barnes, Julia Handy, Audrey Dykzuel, Kaylin Randhawa, and Kennedy Folly helped their team dominate the 14-1 division, be ranked number one in Northern California, and earn a spot in the upcoming USAV Junior National Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Turlock Youth Wrestling Club recently completed its Folkstyle season, competing in and walking away from the 17th Annual Suplay Reno Worlds Wrestling Tournament with five medalists. Now, the Turlock club is kicking off its Greco season in today's Greco State Tournament which is being held at Fresno's Selland Arena.
The city of Turlock is well known for its wrestling programs. With teams at Turlock High, Pitman High, Dutcher Middle School, and Turlock Junior High, as well as a long-established youth program in the Turlock Youth Wrestling Club, many Turlockers have grown up with an affinity for the mat.
Late February and early March is crunch time for high school wrestlers. After months of hard work in wrestling rooms, wrestlers either see their labor rewarded with divisional, sectional, and state success or they see the flame of their season extinguished. It's the defining high stakes nature of a sport that requires a high degree of dedication.
It was a perfect year for the Shake 'n Bake U14 girls soccer team. Based out of Turlock, the team finished 19-0 in the Turlock Youth Soccer Association, taking them all the way to the Division IV State Cup-The Founders Cup in Modesto-as they dominated their opponents in a six game span.
Medeiros Elementary School's Mya Sanchez earned her third consecutive Punt, Pass, and Kick competition last Sunday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, braving brutally cold conditions to claim the top spot in the 8-9 year old girls division.
Last year, the 7th grade girls basketball team at Turlock Junior High suffered through a 4-10 season in which they were the repeated victims of a then undefeated Dutcher Diamondbacks team and a talented Prescott Roadrunners squad.
The Ajax United U-10 girls soccer team finished off an amazing season with a 2nd place finish in the Nor-Cal State Cup after falling to the second ranked squad in the state-Mountain View Los Altos - in a 1-0 thriller.
Week 11 of the 2013 season saw Turlock Youth Football hosting the first round of playoffs at home. Unfortunately, Rookie 49ers had to travel to Oakdale to take on the Modesto Broncos due to seed placement - but the 49ers brought home a 36-12 win. The Pee Wee 49ers started the day off for TYF by defeating the Manteca Jaguars in a close game with a final score of 13-12. The Turlock FC Hurricanes U-11 girls team were the ball kids at Sunday's Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer game. The Hurricanes got to see first-hand the Warriors' victory over Sonoma State. After the game, the Warriors took a picture with the up-and-coming soccer stars.
Week 10 was the famous "Bud" Faria Bowl which was started in 1994 in memory of Bud Faria who was a long time contributor to Turlock Youth Football. In this annual epic event, TYF teams go head to head and compete against one another - for bragging rights and the Bud Bowl trophy. The winning team has the trophy engraved with the winning score and the year.

Week 9 saw the Turlock Youth Football Vikings traveling to Atwater to take on the Falcons. The Vikings took over the Falcons' home field, winning at all levels. Pee Wee started the day with a shutout victory, 48-0; JV followed the winning streak with a 42-0 victory. Varsity ended the day by defeating the Falcons 47-12.
