Turlock Sea Dogs win third straight dual against Manteca

It was 105 degrees on the pool deck when the Turlock Sea Dogs hosted the Manteca Dolphins on Saturday. Parents and spectators took refuge under canopies and the young competitors cooled down in the water, but Manteca could do little to beat the heat Turlock had to offer as they succumbed to the Sea Dogs by more than 600 points.

Turlock FC soccer club wins Norcal playoffs

The Turlock FC, United U/11 boys team recently competed in and won the 2012 Norcal Premier Soccer League, Spring Cross Regional play off. The team is coached by Vicente Mejia and is made up of local boys from the Modesto, Ceres, Turlock and surrounding areas.

Rivercats, Rangers take Little League City Championships

The American Rivercats faced the National Bats in the first of two Turlock Little League City Championships on Saturday. The first half of the game turned out to be a defensive battle as the Rivercats and Bats dueled from the hill in the Minor league contest. An offensive surge in the top of the fifth inning turned the tide for the Rivercats, however, leading to a 7-2 victory and the team's first City Championship.

Undefeated Rangers to face Rockies in Little League City Championship

Lulu's Rangers faced a familiar foe during Tuesday's American Little League Championship game, the Tigers. After defeating the Tigers in the first round of this year's playoff tournament, the Rangers put in a repeat performance, winning 10-4 and earning a spot in the Turlock Little League City Championship game on Saturday.

Youth wrestlers shine at state tournament

Three wrestlers from the Turlock Youth Wrestling Club earned medals at the Youth Freestyle State Tournament at the Selland Arena in Fresno on Sunday. William Giron finished fourth in the 65 pound division, Juan Mora placed fourth at 112 pounds, and Hailey Ward walked away with a gold medal in the girls' 60 pound division. All three wrestlers competed at the intermediate level, comprised of 9-10 year olds.

Rockies blow past Dbacks

The Rockies wasted no time getting on the board when they faced the Diamondbacks on Thursday in the second round of the National League Little League playoff tournament. Two first-inning runs put the Rockies in the lead but it was a nine-run third inning that gave them the 13-3 win and a guaranteed spot in today's National League Championship.

Tigers mount comeback, defeat Yankees 6-4

It was the top of the third inning. The American League Yankees led the Tigers by four runs and seemed to be in complete control of the game. The Tigers knew they had to turn the tide, and soon, or their goal of a tournament championship would become harder to achieve.

Still on the mat; club wrestlers earn top marks at state folkstyle competition

High school wrestling season has ended but a handful of wrestlers continue to compete, sharpening their skills and staying in shape for next season. Those wrestlers, members of the Turlock Wrestling Club, took part in the 2012 Cadet-Junior Folkstyle State Championships last weekend and their performances earned TWC a team championship in both the Cadet and Junior classes.

Turlock taekwondo students impress in Santa Cruz

Tony Merafuentes has been a taekwondo practitioner for 35 years and an instructor for 22 of those years. Merafuentes' instructing career began in Modesto when he was just 24 years old, but three years ago he brought his knowledge and love for the Korean martial art to the Turlock Academy on East Main.

Vikings go 1-1 in Texas

In the first round of the Youth National Championship Tournament the Turlock Vikings were pitted against the Texas Wrecking Crew, an All-Star team twice their size. The majority of those who face the Wrecking Crew quit by halftime but Turlock stuck it out on Tuesday, doing their best to compete in the 30-0 loss.
