The American Rivercats faced the National Bats in the first of two Turlock Little League City Championships on Saturday. The first half of the game turned out to be a defensive battle as the Rivercats and Bats dueled from the hill in the Minor league contest. An offensive surge in the top of the fifth inning turned the tide for the Rivercats, however, leading to a 7-2 victory and the team's first City Championship.

Three wrestlers from the Turlock Youth Wrestling Club earned medals at the Youth Freestyle State Tournament at the Selland Arena in Fresno on Sunday. William Giron finished fourth in the 65 pound division, Juan Mora placed fourth at 112 pounds, and Hailey Ward walked away with a gold medal in the girls' 60 pound division. All three wrestlers competed at the intermediate level, comprised of 9-10 year olds.
The Rockies wasted no time getting on the board when they faced the Diamondbacks on Thursday in the second round of the National League Little League playoff tournament. Tony Merafuentes has been a taekwondo practitioner for 35 years and an instructor for 22 of those years. Merafuentes' instructing career began in Modesto when he was just 24 years old, but three years ago he brought his knowledge and love for the Korean martial art to the Turlock Academy on East Main.
