Little League All-Star tournaments underway

There was stiff competition between Turlock's youth baseball players this summer. Nine to 12-year olds completed a tough, regular season in the American and National leagues as well as an exciting playoff tournament that culminated with the City Championships, the highlight for every Little League fan.

Sea Dogs win home invitational for first time

The Turlock Sea Dogs have been chasing the Ripon Sea Lions for some time. Last year Turlock's swimmers came close to defeating their rivals at the Sea Dog Invitational but came up short once again, finishing in second place by a margin of 10 points. After last year's heartbreak, the Sea Dogs and their coach Erich Richter made it their mission to top the Sea Lions and claim first place at their home invitational.

Turlock Sea Dogs win third straight dual against Manteca

It was 105 degrees on the pool deck when the Turlock Sea Dogs hosted the Manteca Dolphins on Saturday. Parents and spectators took refuge under canopies and the young competitors cooled down in the water, but Manteca could do little to beat the heat Turlock had to offer as they succumbed to the Sea Dogs by more than 600 points.

Turlock FC soccer club wins Norcal playoffs

The Turlock FC, United U/11 boys team recently competed in and won the 2012 Norcal Premier Soccer League, Spring Cross Regional play off. The team is coached by Vicente Mejia and is made up of local boys from the Modesto, Ceres, Turlock and surrounding areas.

Rivercats, Rangers take Little League City Championships

The American Rivercats faced the National Bats in the first of two Turlock Little League City Championships on Saturday. The first half of the game turned out to be a defensive battle as the Rivercats and Bats dueled from the hill in the Minor league contest. An offensive surge in the top of the fifth inning turned the tide for the Rivercats, however, leading to a 7-2 victory and the team's first City Championship.

Undefeated Rangers to face Rockies in Little League City Championship

Lulu's Rangers faced a familiar foe during Tuesday's American Little League Championship game, the Tigers. After defeating the Tigers in the first round of this year's playoff tournament, the Rangers put in a repeat performance, winning 10-4 and earning a spot in the Turlock Little League City Championship game on Saturday.

Youth wrestlers shine at state tournament

Three wrestlers from the Turlock Youth Wrestling Club earned medals at the Youth Freestyle State Tournament at the Selland Arena in Fresno on Sunday. William Giron finished fourth in the 65 pound division, Juan Mora placed fourth at 112 pounds, and Hailey Ward walked away with a gold medal in the girls' 60 pound division. All three wrestlers competed at the intermediate level, comprised of 9-10 year olds.
