Summer wrestling camp set to kick off new youth program

The city of Turlock is well known for its wrestling programs. With teams at Turlock High, Pitman High, Dutcher Middle School, and Turlock Junior High, as well as a long-established youth program in the Turlock Youth Wrestling Club, many Turlockers have grown up with an affinity for the mat.

Youth wrestlers win big at SJWA Championships

Late February and early March is crunch time for high school wrestlers. After months of hard work in wrestling rooms, wrestlers either see their labor rewarded with divisional, sectional, and state success or they see the flame of their season extinguished. It's the defining high stakes nature of a sport that requires a high degree of dedication.

Turlock FC United ends season with State title

Turlock FC United dominated the U-13 division of the NorCal State Cup soccer finals held this past weekend in Modesto, after taking down the East Valley FC Earthquakes 1-0 in a golden goal fashion.

Shake 'n Bakin’ into the winners circle

It was a perfect year for the Shake 'n Bake U14 girls soccer team. Based out of Turlock, the team finished 19-0 in the Turlock Youth Soccer Association, taking them all the way to the Division IV State Cup-The Founders Cup in Modesto-as they dominated their opponents in a six game span.

Mya Sanchez PPK three-peat

Medeiros Elementary School's Mya Sanchez earned her third consecutive Punt, Pass, and Kick competition last Sunday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, braving brutally cold conditions to claim the top spot in the 8-9 year old girls division.

TJHS 8th grade girls turn it around in 2013

Last year, the 7th grade girls basketball team at Turlock Junior High suffered through a 4-10 season in which they were the repeated victims of a then undefeated Dutcher Diamondbacks team and a talented Prescott Roadrunners squad.

Ajax United U-10 girls end year in second place

The Ajax United U-10 girls soccer team finished off an amazing season with a 2nd place finish in the Nor-Cal State Cup after falling to the second ranked squad in the state-Mountain View Los Altos - in a 1-0 thriller.

TYF teams take playoffs by storm

Week 11 of the 2013 season saw Turlock Youth Football hosting the first round of playoffs at home. Unfortunately, Rookie 49ers had to travel to Oakdale to take on the Modesto Broncos due to seed placement - but the 49ers brought home a 36-12 win. The Pee Wee 49ers started the day off for TYF by defeating the Manteca Jaguars in a close game with a final score of 13-12. ON THE SIDELINES WITH COLLEGE MENTORS

The Turlock FC Hurricanes U-11 girls team were the ball kids at Sunday's Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer game. The Hurricanes got to see first-hand the Warriors' victory over Sonoma State. After the game, the Warriors took a picture with the up-and-coming soccer stars.

Bud Bowl weekend sees TYF teams split apart

Week 10 was the famous "Bud" Faria Bowl which was started in 1994 in memory of Bud Faria who was a long time contributor to Turlock Youth Football. In this annual epic event, TYF teams go head to head and compete against one another - for bragging rights and the Bud Bowl trophy. The winning team has the trophy engraved with the winning score and the year.

Vikings sweep Falcons; 49er Pee Wee, JV teams victorious

Week 9 saw the Turlock Youth Football Vikings traveling to Atwater to take on the Falcons. The Vikings took over the Falcons' home field, winning at all levels. Pee Wee started the day with a shutout victory, 48-0; JV followed the winning streak with a 42-0 victory. Varsity ended the day by defeating the Falcons 47-12.

TYF stays home and wins at all levels

Week 8 started for Turlock Youth Football at 8 a.m. Saturday with the Vikings hosting the Central Valley (CV) 49ers. Pee Wee Vikings started the day with a shutout victory over the CV 49ers 40-0. JV continued the shutout with a 36-0 victory. Varsity, with the biggest score, handed the CV 49ers another loss with a final score 48- 0. Next week the Vikings will be on the road, heading to Atwater to take on the Falcons, who are licking their wounds as they were beaten by the TYF Niners. Game times will be 1:30 p.m. for ...

Medeiros hosts Punt, Pass, Kick competition

Medeiros Elementary School hosted its fourth annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Thursday and Friday, welcoming over 200 participants, with kids ranging in age from six to 13.

Vikings shutout Wolves on the road; 49ers have trouble at home

Week 6 saw the Turlock Youth Football Vikings travel to Livingston to take on the Wolf Pack, but the Wolves, once again, were dominated by a Turlock team, and shut out at all levels.
