Huber, 52, has been fishing most of his life and said it took about 45 minutes to land the fish, which is 85 pounds and 65 inches long.
In January many look to the slopes for holiday and family fun. The latest ski report from Dodge Ridge includes 10 inches of new snowfall over the last two days. Bear Valley opened on Dec. 26 with limited terrain available, and First Tracks will open today.
One day, Dave Morgan was watching his Denair High boys basketball players hold a free-throw contest. Even in this supposedly fun activity, he became frustrated that they weren't sinking enough shots - so much so that he barked to his players, "Gimme that thing!"
Dave Morgan, one of the most successful boys basketball coaches in state history who guided Denair High to a section title in 1990, died on Monday. He was 89.
Turlock High graduate Tom Mendonca will be close to home once again, as his Bakersfield Blaze will open the North Division playoffs against the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field starting today at 7:05 p.m. in the best-of-three series.
Everyone expected Tom Brandstater's first NFL start on Thursday night to be exciting, but the Turlock High graduate made people's jaws drop.
The Denver Broncos quarterback situation is a mess, which is a good thing for Tom Brandstater. The sixth-round pick out of Fresno State was only supposed to be this season's third-string quarterback, an NFL rookie who would carry a clipboard and headset while learning the playbook on the sidelines. But a series of unexpected events has created a dream situation for the Turlock High graduate. He hopes to start on opening day. Of course, a ...
MODESTO - Tom Mendonca was not in a rush to go anywhere. And, he thought, it can't get any better than this. Mendonca was living his dream Thursday night, playing in a professional baseball game. What made it special was that he was doing it in front of some very familiar faces at John Thurman Field, as he suited up for the first time for the Bakersfield Blaze of the California League in a contest ...
It's back to football for Kevin Kramer. But the Turlock High junior enters the upcoming season with heavy jewelry after he was a major contributor in the Under-16 U.S. National Baseball Team's gold medal run. The Americans beat Cuba 7-6 in the title game of the World Youth Baseball Championships at Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan, on Sunday night. The U.S. has now won four straight international gold medals, owning a 31-0 record during that ...
On Saturday night, Denver Broncos rookie quarterback and former Turlock High standout Tom Brandstater wasn't restricted to the sidelines for three hours, as he was a week earlier. He finally got his chance to play in an NFL game, this one against the Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field in preseason action.
Scotsman Dario Franchitti (#10 Target Ganassi Racing) used his starting position on the pole to maximum advantage by leading wire-to-wire for the victory in Sunday's IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Sonoma on the tough 12-turn, 2.303-mile road course at Infineon Raceway.
Things were looking bleak for the 16-under U.S. National players, who found themselves in a rather deep hole against the Chinese Taipei baseball team.
SAN FRANCISCO - There is no way to know for sure what Tom Brandstater would have done with the football Friday night.

As Master of the Merafuentes Tae Kwon Do Academy of Martial Arts in Turlock, Tony and I had spoken about his students and their accomplishments in the past. He had relayed to me the tenants of tae kwon do and I had formulated a rough understanding of ...

Mother Nature was kind to competitors at the Anglers Choice WRL Motherlode tournament held Dec. 1 on Lake McClure. Forty-seven teams competed under overcast skies and in 60 degree temperatures. The Stanislaus County Fair asked visitors to "imagine the fun" this year but many opted to experience the fun instead, and nowhere was that more evident than in the Food Maxx Arena. During the fair's 10-day run spectators witnessed two destruction derbies, monster trucks, freestyle motocross and flat track events - but the concluding night of motor sports was arguably the most fun. On Sunday, the Mudbog and Lawn Mower races marked the ...
