Motorsports: Ground to air

Fans at the FoodMaxx Arena this week had plenty to cheer about, as motorcycle jumpers did their version of gymnastics in the air and kids and adults got a kick of adrenaline rush in the quad drag races. A good chunk of the quad drag racers were local, while there was one motorcycle jumper who recently participated in the X-Games. It was an eventful night in which spectators cheered on quad drag riders as they went as fast as they could on a 200-feet track.

Mendonca crowned top WAC athlete

Tom Mendonca's legacy just keeps growing. After a decorated career at Fresno State, the Turlock High graduate was the top male student-athlete in the Western Athletic Conference as he earned the Joe Kearney Award on Tuesday. Modesto Babe Ruth fights back into regional title game

It wasn't easy. The Modesto Babe Ruth 16-18-year-old baseball players suffered a 4-3 loss to Watsonville in the second round of the Pacific Southwest Regional at Watsonville High last week, only to use it as motivation. Modesto Babe Ruth comes out strong to take regional opener

For the Modesto Babe Ruth 16-18-year-old baseball team winning is now a recurring theme. And the players did it again on Thursday night, exploding for eight runs in the first inning of their Pacific Southwest Regional opener against Nevada at Wastonville High in Wastonville. They won 19-1.
