Historical Society to replay THS’ 1949 football game vs. Modesto

The Turlock Historical Society will host a replay of the "Big Game" of 1949 between the Turlock High Bulldogs and the Modesto High Panthers at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Berg Hall, Covenant Village, 2125 N. Olive Ave., Turlock.The event is free to the public, with light refreshments to be served.Afterward, there will be a group discussion about the rivalry game, as well as a chance to meet some of the former players.

Several years ago I took a friend out fishing on the delta. He proceeded to catch the biggest bass of his life that day. Funny thing was that he just got back from a guided trip in Mexico for trophy bass. His biggest fish during his Mexico trip was half the size of the one he caught that day.

Local drivers embrace the mud

What most drivers would consider nightmare road conditions were just the ticket for area Mud Bog competitors at the last night of the Stanislaus County Fair on Sunday.The muddier the better was the mantra of those who put their four-wheel drives to the test in the knee-deep mud pits which took center stage in FoodMaxx Arena. The annual Mud Bog competition consisted of four categories: Rhino/Rangers, Local, Super Stock and Modified. Stanislaus Cardinals return for big year

The 18-year-old Stanislaus Cardinals Babe Ruth baseball team ended its season with an early run in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament. With the help of a pool of talented players from local schools including Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar High, the team is shaping up well and looking to surpass last season's success and eventually make the World Series.
