The OBS Monarchs 12-and-under A Division Fastpitch Softball Team won the October Madness World Series Qualifier at Big League Dreams held Oct. 9-10. The team, which includes players from the Stockton, Manteca, Oakdale and Turlock area went 4-1-1 for the weekend. The Monarchs beat the Magnum Force in the championship game 5-2.
Ali Cox's decision to return to competitive rowing wasn't very sudden. It wasn't an epiphany waking her up from her sleep in the middle of the night. She wanted to make sure this was what she wanted to do again, and that she was ready for it.
They weren't as swift as they once were, but the passion was still there. The men who gathered during Saturday's warm morning at the Turlock Fitness & Racquet Club weren't going to back down from each other, evident by their hard serves and the playful trash-talking that was overheard.
The Turlock Historical Society will host a replay of the "Big Game" of 1949 between the Turlock High Bulldogs and the Modesto High Panthers at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Berg Hall, Covenant Village, 2125 N. Olive Ave., Turlock.The event is free to the public, with light refreshments to be served.Afterward, there will be a group discussion about the rivalry game, as well as a chance to meet some of the former players.

Several years ago I took a friend out fishing on the delta. He proceeded to catch the biggest bass of his life that day. Funny thing was that he just got back from a guided trip in Mexico for trophy bass. His biggest fish during his Mexico trip was half the size of the one he caught that day.

What most drivers would consider nightmare road conditions were just the ticket for area Mud Bog competitors at the last night of the Stanislaus County Fair on Sunday.The muddier the better was the mantra of those who put their four-wheel drives to the test in the knee-deep mud pits which took center stage in FoodMaxx Arena.
