They weren't as swift as they once were, but the passion was still there. The men who gathered during Saturday's warm morning at the Turlock Fitness & Racquet Club weren't going to back down from each other, evident by their hard serves and the playful trash-talking that was overheard.

Scenery is not everything

Several years ago I took a friend out fishing on the delta. He proceeded to catch the biggest bass of his life that day. Funny thing was that he just got back from a guided trip in Mexico for trophy bass. His biggest fish during his Mexico trip was half the size of the one he caught that day.

Appetite for Destruction

The night started just as it had in years past. Modified and reinforced cars entered Food Maxx Arena one by one, taking a ceremonial parade lap as the crowd cheered. Behind them followed six tow trucks, stalking the cars as a vulture would their soon-to-be prey - a sign of the destruction to come. "I've been watching the derby for about five years," Shannon Nixon said. "I love the excitement of the cars ...

Anthony Harding's interest in physical fitness was born many years ago when he was just a kid on the football field. It grew as he attended Pitman High, where he became a two-sport varsity standout, flourished at Fresno State University, where Harding majored in Kinesiology and served as the Bulldog's running back, and finally took a hold of him during his preparation for the NFL combines after graduation. Athleticism and attitude: A derby girl’s credo

On Saturday I drove to the S.O.S Club in Modesto to watch the SINtral Valley Derby Girls host the Shasta Mountain Mighty Rollers, where I experienced the cult sensation known as roller derby for the first time.
