It took Denair's Tony Silveira 16 years to win for the first time, but only one year to do it again as the veteran driver claimed his second consecutive victory in Monday's "Traditional Turmoil" Destruction Derby, presented by the Turlock Lions Club, in the Food Maxx Arena at the Stanislaus County Fair.

Cindy Kelley entered the world of CrossFit competition two years ago at the age of 49, taking what was essentially a healthy hobby and turning it into a goal-driven source of motivation. She finished eighth at her first Reebok CrossFit Games and second last year, but in the 2015 games, as part of the Women's 50-54 Division, Kelley trumped her past performances with an overall first place finish.
The Stanislaus County Fair is here and with it an anticipation for fried foods, rides, exhibits, musical performances and motor sports. Of all the entertainment options available during the fair's nine-day run, the single most popular event is undoubtedly the two-day Destruction Derby, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday and hosted by the Turlock Lions Club.
The 18-year-old Stanislaus Cardinals Babe Ruth baseball team ended its season with an early run in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament. With the help of a pool of talented players from local schools including Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar High, the team is shaping up well and looking to surpass last season's success and eventually make the World Series.
The 48th Annual Outstanding Athlete Awards ceremony was held at the Sportsmen of Stanislaus Club in Modesto on Wednesday, bringing the best student and adult athletes Stanislaus County has to offer together for one night of recognition and fun.
The Sportsmen of Stanislaus club has been recognizing athletic achievements in the form of the Outstanding Athlete Award for several decades, celebrating and rewarding athletes from Stanislaus County for their success and ability in their respective sports. Players, coaches, teams and community contributors from all over the county have had the honor to win an OAA award, and tonight, at the 48th annual OAA banquet, four athletes from Turlock have the opportunity to be added to that list.
