The power of never giving up

It was a stunning realization to see the U.S. team finalize an epic comeback against Brazil to win its quarterfinal match in the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany last weekend. The win told many stories, and not just about the fact that the Americans are now just one win from the championship game.

Say it ain’t so, NBA

Life without the NBA is an inconceivable thought.

Don’t fish blind

Recently, while camping with my family at Lake Pardee, my son and I decided to take a walk. We ended up near the boat ramp where there were a lot of people fishing. They had just released a truck load of trout into the lake earlier that morning, so there were people catching fish all around us.

Will Jimmer save the Kings?

Like most Central Valley residents, I grew up a Sacramento Kings fan.

It isn’t over until it’s over

I did not see the majority of the Dallas Mavericks' late-game comeback against the Miami Heat on Thursday night in the second game of the NBA Finals. Like most spectators, I thought the Mavs were done after being down by 15 points with 7:15 minutes left, so I went away from the TV for a few minutes.

Once it’s gone, it’s gone

While updating my phone it crashed and I lost all of my information. Initially, I didn't think it was such a big deal. I couldn't have been more wrong as I ended up spending most of the day trying to recover all of my lost information. It's really quite scary how much information can be lost in a matter of seconds. On my boat I have a depth finder that has close to 10 years of fishing information stored on it. If by chance I was to lose that information, I don't know what I would ...

Letting go of precious memories

When I was a kid, I used to dig through the family couch for loose change. It's kind of silly now, but that was the fastest way to land cash for me at the time. All that money I came across went straight to the local baseball card store.

A not so fond farewell

Just imagine the dark orange color that comes from a burning basketball jersey, one lit up by brokenhearted sports fans. LeBron James can't.

Whatever happened to roughing it?

A close relative of mine mentioned to me that he was going camping for two days at one of the local lakes. As he began to go through his packing list, he couldn't help to add a few things here and there. Before he knew it, his truck was completely full. He couldn't believe how much stuff he needed for just a few days of camping.

The importance of Brock Lesnar

About a year ago around this time, I wrote about the importance of Brock Lesnar, the UFC heavyweight champion that had the mouth to go along with his pit bull physique. He was a different kind of MMA fighter.

We’re all crazed fans

I've been thinking about this whole NBA free agency thingy. You know, the one that boasts the greatest free agency class in NBA history. There's the possibility of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh coming together to build a superstar team, and load of other big-time hoop stars that can alter any team into a good one.

Savor the New Giants' golden age

With one out to get for the 2014 World Series title, a colossally bad defensive play threatened to lose the Giants a championship. San Francisco center fielder Gregor Blanco missed a fly ball. Left fielder Juan Perez kicked it. Kansas City's Alex Gordon sprinted to third and the Royals sent Salvador Perez to bat with a chance to win the game.
