Dear editor,

Hope for young generation

I want to thank the two young men who found my wallet in a cart at Walmart. They refused a reward but they can't know how much they restored my thoughts of the younger generation. Thanks again.

Reflections on Wisconsin

Ana and I attended the vigil at the Sikh temple in Turlock on Friday evening. It was a solemn ceremony, with the participation of most of the Turlock Sikh community and of the city's elected leadership.

Fair incident reaffirms faith in humanity

Dear Editor,

July 24, 2012 | | Letters to the Editor

Enough is enough

Please help me here. We are in the worst recession in years, and the city of Turlock has in last few years built a multi-million dollar fire station, police station, art center, and a transportation center.

‘True Tea Party’ makes surprise endorsement

Tea Party activists made history in recent years and our movement will continue to shape the nation's future. To fully promote our conservative principles, we at the True Tea Party wish to explain our endorsement in the presidential race.

Worst parade in years

I just experienced the worst 4th of July celebration in Turlock in years. The Turlock parade lasted just 27 minutes. I invited friends and relatives from out of town to see the parade and was so embarrassed when the last car said "that's it."

Keep county fair a real fair

A better way to solve the problem of overcrowding (of livestock at the Stanislaus County Fair) would be to have the judging before the fair starts if necessary. Then allow each 4-H and FFA club to exhibit a predetermined number of animals including their sale animals.

Poor decision by fair board

In case you don't know yet, Stanislaus County Fair is NOT having a Christian artist come this year to do a concert at the fair as they have in the past few years. Certainly it can't be because the performances by Christian artists have been poorly attended. Actually it is the opposite. When the Christian artists have come, the Christian community packed the place out and many followed up by letting the fair people know how much it was appreciated and what a blessing it was to everyone.

Thank you for supporting our libraries

On June 5, Stanislaus County voters reaffirmed their support of Stanislaus County Libraries. Nearly 82 percent of voters said yes to libraries, renewing until 2018 the tiny 1/8 of a penny sales tax that supports our libraries!

Supporting local veterans

On May 14-19 American Legion members, auxiliary, and Boy Scout Troop #21 (Doug Leung, leader) distributed poppies in exchange for donations to be used one-hundred percent for veterans and their families in need. The people in Turlock and surrounding areas, along with the veterans themselves, were generous in their giving, and we appreciate each and every one of you for your generosity.

Soiseth is wrong on Measure B

I was disappointed to learn of Gary Soiseth's opposition to Measure B - the proposed half-cent sales tax dedicated to fixing Turlock roads. However, my disappointment quickly turned to frustration as I read Soiseth's rational for opposing Measure B.

Brem much more qualified to be our mayor

Gary Soiseth is a really nice young man, but he has very little experience or involvement with the City of Turlock and only recently became a resident. Mike Brem has been a resident for over 20 years, he is a proven business leader - as the CEO of a very successful local business with over 100 employees, he has served in leadership roles with the Chamber of Commerce, is a longtime member and past president of Turlock Rotary, and has been a member of the city's planning commission for many years. Mike is very familiar with Turlock's unique needs ...

Measure B money will stay in Turlock

The citizens of Turlock will have the opportunity Nov. 4 to make a commitment to fixing Turlock roads by voting YES on Measure B. Turlock roads have suffered from years of neglect as a result of not having a dedicated funding source and it's time that we take control of maintaining our investment in Turlock's transportation infrastructure.
