Glad to be back in my hometown

It was great to see the Turlock High water polo team looking so good [in Friday's Turlock Journal]. I have a vested interest in the team since my oldest son, Aaron, is the head coach. I see the last names of many of the sons of former players who were on the team under the late Steve Feaver. I know if Steve was around to see how the team is doing, he would approve of Aaron replacing him.

Congress should leave meat labeling law alone

When Congress returns to the nation's capital next week, let's hope they fail to act on one issue important to farmers and ranchers in California and that issue is country of origin labeling (COOL). The future for California farmers and ranchers depends on our ability to label the high quality products we produce in the grocery store and we now have that ability through mandatory country of origin labeling (COOL). Despite this fact, Congress is on the verge of repealing a popular meat labeling law that farmers, ranchers and consumers from around the country fought for years to ...

Shame on you Mr. President

Considering the events of the past week, I find it appalling that the president did not call for flags to be flown half staff for the four Marines who were killed in Chattanooga. I also find it shameful that we allow our elected officials to display this kind of behavior.

Fire Department urges common sense for Fourth

The Turlock Fire Department wants our citizens and community to have a happy and safe July 4th Holiday. We want to remind our citizens that only fireworks with the State of California Fire Marshal approval are legal to use in the City of Turlock. Fireworks that fly into the air or explode are considered illegal and are highly dangerous. The last few years, both the Fire and Police Departments have confiscated a number of illegal fireworks from our citizens. The trend of using illegal fireworks these past few years is definitely on the rise. We want to let our citizens ...

Turlock hospitality

We are based in the United Kingdom and are fortunate enough to travel the world house sitting. We have spent the last month based in the lovely Turlock and wanted to express our thanks to those we have had the good fortune to meet here. In particular the volunteers in The Turlock Historical Centre whom we questioned for over an hour( poor things); the welcoming staff in LaMo who made us feel like regulars; every single service deliverer who had a smile and cheery greeting for us and of course our host Mary and her extended family. They all presented ...
