Earlier last week, I traveled to Washington, D.C., with more than 750 of my fellow American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volunteers from across the country to urge Congress to support lifesaving policies that help people prevent and fight cancer. I called on lawmakers to increase federal funding for cancer research, co-sponsor legislation to improve patient quality of life and remove cost barriers to colorectal cancer screenings for seniors.
It was great to see the Turlock High water polo team looking so good [in Friday's Turlock Journal]. I have a vested interest in the team since my oldest son, Aaron, is the head coach. I see the last names of many of the sons of former players who were on the team under the late Steve Feaver. I know if Steve was around to see how the team is doing, he would approve of Aaron replacing him.

Considering the events of the past week, I find it appalling that the president did not call for flags to be flown half staff for the four Marines who were killed in Chattanooga. I also find it shameful that we allow our elected officials to display this kind of behavior.
The Turlock Fire Department wants our citizens and community to have a happy and safe July 4th Holiday. We want to remind our citizens that only fireworks with the State of California Fire Marshal approval are legal to use in the City of Turlock. Fireworks that fly into the air or explode are considered illegal and are highly dangerous. The last few years, both the Fire and Police Departments have confiscated a number of illegal fireworks from our citizens.
