Accolades for Senator's help
Dear Editor: We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Senator Dave Cogdill for his leadership in getting SB 85 passed in the State legislature and signed by the governor. Stadium blighted, neighborhood not
Turlock high school has been there for 100 years. It was there when you and I bought our houses. Though the neighborhood is not blighted, the stadium's field and track are! I not only live near it (3 blocks away) but taught health and P.E. there for 20 years.

Are stadium renovations really the best use of funds?
There is a lot of unfair criticism pointed at those opposed to the remodeling of Joe Debely Stadium. Both of my sons played on that field in high school, and even then it was in need of repair. Nobody wants to see an athlete get hurt due to poor field quality and no parents want to continue sitting on those cold metal bleachers in the middle of a chilly November evening.
Joe Debely renovations benefit entire community
The Turlock High School Joe Debely Stadium renovation appears to have brought a lot of negativity to the school, the City Council, and those who support the renovation. The Turlock Unified School Board is always concerned about its neighbors and their needs. They pride themselves in maintaining good relationships with our community and have repeatedly voiced their willingness to address any and all issues with regard to the stadium improvements.
Family is grateful for support of community

In a letter to the editor titled "Council members need lesson in civility" that ran in the Feb. 13 issue of the Journal, Dale Parkinson wrote: "Councilmember Kurt Spycher casually said that (City of Turlock Economic Development Manager Heidi McNally-Dial's) position on the city staff would be eliminated and then Councilmember Ted Howze agreed."
Spycher and Howze were out of line
I couldn't agree more with Dale Parkinson's comments in his letter to the editor published in the Feb. 13 Turlock Journal.
Sportsmanship lacking at TC basketball game
I have been involved in high school athletics for many years; I have played in them and I have cheered from the sidelines. After the Turlock Christian/Denair game that I just attended, I have almost lost all faith in the sportsmanship that used to be held at such a high standard at all high school athletic contests.
Using RDA funds for stadium renovations is wrong
Dear Editor, The Turlock City Council is giving Redevelopment Agency money to the Turlock School District. The community members who filed the lawsuit want Turlock citizens to know we believe this RDA project is against RDA and state law. Obama is on the right track
I believe that President Barack Obama is on the right track with focusing on job creation. I think helping small businesses with giving small banks the incentive to give loans and the tax credits to businesses who hire new workers or give them raises is a step in the right direction.
Making every woman count
Dear Editor, On Jan. 1, the Every Woman Counts program, which provides mammograms to 350,000 underserved women in California each year, closed its doors and will not start screening women again until July. When the program reopens, women under the age 50 will not be served. Why? To save a few bucks, just one half of one percent... which will have little impact on the state's massive budget deficit. Local jails cannot bear burden of housing state prison inmates
California's budget crisis has impacted every level of government: State, county, and city. Painful cuts have been and will continue to be made in all areas. Cheerleaders too racy for parade
My family and I attended the Turlock Christmas parade. This is an annual event for us and we usually enjoy it to the fullest. This year was quite the opposite when the Stanislaus State cheerleaders came parading by with their behinds hanging out. I find it odd that out of all the employees at the Turlock Raley's only five employees felt the need to honor the picket line.
