Tennis courts in Turlock are typically populated by high school and collegiate teams seeking competition and individuals looking for recreation, but from September to March there is a group of women who occupy the courts at Brenda Athletic Club in search of both.
When Sargon Isaac started playing snooker at the age of 14 in England his interest in the game was one of pure recreation. It didn't take long for Isaac's interest to develop into a full-blown passion, however, and by the time he was 18 years old he was playing the game competitively in tournaments and adult leagues. But at age 22, just when he was refining his snooker skills, Isaac accepted a job offer and moved to California, effectively ending his love affair with snooker.
After taking first in Nor Cal's Fall League in 2014, the Turlock FC White team underwent several changes. Three team members moved on to other clubs and several team members have suffered injuries throughout the season. All of this made it more of a challenge for the girls to overcome the setbacks, but they proved themselves worthy of such a challenge.
Small-school track teams made it happen at this year's Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV/V Championships, specifically Hilmar and Delhi High who exited the final day of the two-day competition at California State University, Stanislaus on Thursday with a combined five qualifiers for next week's SJS Masters Championships.
