Turlock volleyball squad topples Merced 3-0

The Turlock High varsity volleyball team bounced back from their 3-2 loss to Atwater on Monday with a 3-0, (25-19, 25-20 and 27-25) victory over Merced on Wednesday. The 'Dogs are now 3-1 in the Central California Conference, making it their best start in league since the 2006 season.

Pitman polo blows Golden Valley out of the water

The Pitman Pride's water polo teams swept visiting Golden Valley High School on Thursday afternoon with both the boys' and girls' varsity teams finishing up 17-6, and 11-7, respectively against the Cougars.

It's been almost a full two weeks since the majority of local volleyball teams started league competition, with Trans Valley League teams being the exception. The late start to league-play has resulted in slim pickings for Hilmar High's volleyball team in terms of opponents, but on Thursday the Yellowjackets managed to lure Los Banos High to their homecourt during a bye week for the Tigers.

Hilmar pushes past Turlock in straight sets

Hilmar High rolled through its second Central California Conference team in a week Thursday night when the 'Jackets (14-4 overall) defeated Turlock High two days after doing the same to Atwater High. Hilmar beat the Bulldogs (8-4 overall) in straight sets (27-25, 25-11, and 25-18) as team defense and a powerful offensive attack from Emily Baptista paved the way.

Late goal ties it for Bulldogs

Turlock's Sergio Jiminez knocked in the first goal of Wednesday's home game in the fifth minute against East Union but it wasn't enough as the Lancers tied the game about halfway through the second half to end the game at 1-1.

Turlock fighter to make UFC debut on Saturday

Lewis Gonzalez is officially a UFC fighter. Less than two months after requesting a release from his World Series of Fighting contract and putting his MMA career in a state of uncertainty, Gonzalez has been asked to fight on the preliminary card of Saturday's UFC Fight Night 70 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL where he will face Brazilian fighter Leandro "Buscape" Silva.
