Vander Weide and Halteman sign DI letters of intent

Lindsey Vander Weide and Maddy Halteman have been teammates for years and friends for even longer. They started playing volleyball together in the 7th grade and quickly developed a one-two punch with Halteman acting as the setter to Vander Weide's outside hits. Their chemistry - on and off the court - continued to bud as they entered Pitman High and eventually blossomed this past season when the senior co-captains led the Pride to their best season in school history.

Pride ends season in victor’s column

Pitman High and Turlock High both struggled through the Central California Conference this season as they dealt with inconsistency and strained to form team identities to rally around. Injury, illness and inexperience were just some of the issues both teams had to endure, but none of that seemed to matter when the players hit the court for the final game of the season on Tuesday.

Delhi trumps Gustine to take second in SAL

Coming down to the final week of action, the Delhi High (7-3) boys varsity basketball team looked to make a final push for a postseason berth in their penultimate home contest on Tuesday night as they took down third-place Gustine (5-5) in a thrilling 47-43 victory.

Pitman's run ends in semi-final at Team Sections

The Pitman High wrestling team looked to make a statement at the Division I CIF Sac-Joaquin Team Section Dual Tournament Saturday, but unfortunately fell in the semi-final match to eventual winners - Folsom High - 27-32.

Pitman: Back-to-back champs

For the second year in a row, Pitman High has won the Central California Conference championship with a perfect 5-0 record in league duals, the most recent of which was earned against rival Turlock High via a score of 38-21 on Wednesday.

For the second time this season, the Turlock Christian High Eagles (10-13, 5-6) boys' basketball team met the top team in league - Brookside Christian (18-4, 11-0) - and once again felt the deficit as they lost 47-76 at home on Thursday night.

Hilmar wrestling trounced by Escalon

In their final dual meet of the year, the Hilmar High Yellowjackets wrestling team was one victory away from potentially finishing second in the Trans Valley League but things didn't go as expected for the shorthanded team and instead with a score of 9-60, the 'Jackets dropped to third in the TVL.

Turlock upsets Merced in OT

The last time the girls of Turlock High faced Merced High on the basketball court the Bulldogs were beat by double digits in their second league loss in as many league games. Turlock continued to fall short in the Central California Conference up until last week when it earned its first league win of the season against rival Pitman High.

After a 3-0 start in the Central California Conference this season, the Turlock High Bulldogs were looking to make it four straight league wins at home, but Golden Valley became the spoilers of the night as they topped the 'Dogs, 55-52, after a big stop at the end that included a questionable call.

Coyotes in position to challenge for share of league title

Denair High's wrestling team has once again gained control if its destiny with Wednesday's 57-18 win over Delhi High. Having lost their first dual of the season to Waterford High, the Coyotes (2-1 SAL) were pleased to find out that the Wildcats were handed their first league loss by Mariposa High on Wednesday. Denair is now in position to claim a share of the Southern Athletic League Championship if it can beat Mariposa when the two schools meet next week.

Fresh off their first defeat to Buhach Colony, 29-36, last week in the Central California Conference opener, the Turlock High wrestling team bounced back on Wednesday night with their first league win of the season over Atwater High, 56-13.

Bulldogs claim 4th straight CCC title

It was a war of attrition when Turlock High hosted rival Pitman High in the final Central California Conference girls soccer match of the season on Thursday. The Bulldogs (10-2-3 CCC) entered the match with only a half a game lead over Merced High and needing a tie or a win to secure their fourth consecutive CCC championship. Still, Turlock hit the pitch aggressively looking to end its season in the winner's column before ultimately finishing in a deadlock with the Pride, 0-0.

Boys and girls soccer headed to winter come 2016-17 season

There will soon be a soccer shakeup in the Sac-Joaquin Section. After years of failed proposals to take boys and girls soccer out of their respective fall and spring seasons, the SJS board recently approved moving both boys and girls soccer to the winter season and align its schedule with the California Interscholastic Federation's official season of sport for soccer.

Pride comes out atop in third Center Meet

Pitman and Turlock High competed in the Central California Conference Center Meet in Atwater High for the third time this season, and for the third time in a row, the Pitman varsity girls won, while the boys boasted their second win in three meets on Wednesday afternoon.
