California's high-speed rail network can't get here soon enough, according to three-quarters of Californians polled in a survey released Wednesday – just in time for a California High-Speed Rail Authority lobbying trip to Washington, D.C. on Thursday and Friday.
Merced County's homeless received a major handout from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Monday, when a $364,000 grant was awarded to two Merced County non-profits.Turning Point, a non-profit mental health agency, received $248,000. The pilot who died in a Calaveras County plane crash on June 21 was identified as Keyes business Charles Kenneth Swanson, 59, of Modesto. Swanson, who was killed instantly from multiple traumatic injuries, owned a metal business in Keyes.

The temperatures are climbing quickly into the 'is it summer already?' zone and the crisp waters of the Stanislaus River are looking more and more enticing. However, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are quick to remind people that the river is running swift from high country snow run-off and cold with brisk temperatures between 55 and 60 degrees.
