The investigation into the Delhi stabbing of a suspected teen gang member has led to the seizure of guns and the identity of a second suspect.
The 15-year-old victim was stabbed three times Monday afternoon when a gang fight broke out in the area of Shanks Road and Darlington Avenue, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The victim was air-lifted to a Modesto hospital and is expected to make a full recovery from his wounds, sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said.
Investigators arrested Francisco Salgado, 18, shortly after the attack and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation led detectives to the 9000 block of Donovan Street in Delhi, where they served out a search warrant Tuesday morning.
The search of the residence turned up two 12-gauge shotguns, an assault rifle and a 9mm handgun that had been stolen out of Dos Palos, MacKenzie said.
The search also helped investigators put a name to their second suspect: Cristino Alvarez, 21, of Delhi.
Detectives believe Alvarez and Salgado confronted the teen over some past grievances spurred by their gang rivalry.
During the ensuing fight, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 15-year-old boy three times — twice in his left side and once in his left arm, MacKenzie said. The victim also was repeatedly kicked during the attack.
Alvarez is a Latino man about 5 feet 9 inches and 180 pounds. He is wanted in connection with the stabbing and also faces possible weapon charges once found, MacKenzie said. The sheriff’s department said some of Alvarez’s family members could also be facing criminal charges because they allegedly lied to investigators about his identity.
Anyone with information as to Alvarez’s location or information on the stabbing is asked to call Detective Alex Barba at 385-7660.
