Timm LaVelle and the two other incumbent board members of the Turlock Unified School District have clearly demonstrated why they should be re-elected. Mr. LaVelle has consistently treated those who have appeared before the board with the courtesy and respect they deserve. Under his stewardship, the TUSD board has met the recent budget crisis and other challenges with thoughtful resolve and a reassuring unity characteristic of highly functioning organizations. Under Mr. LaVelle’s leadership, the board has also skillfully managed the transition between superintendents without the drama evident with the Modesto City Schools Board and the Turlock City Council.
With the current board effectively meeting today’s challenges and sure to face new ones, we should give them our support and our votes. Experience matters. Though the challengers are likely model citizens who should be commended for their willingness to serve the public, this is not the time to tinker with the chemistry of the board and experiment with the inexperienced.
