Aerynn Dighton, a California State University, Stanislaus Master’s candidate in History, was named a “Love of Learning” award recipient by the national academic honor society Phi Kappa Phi.
Dighton, who intends to earn a Ph.D. and become a history professor, elected to pursue her master’s degree after 13 years spent away from the classroom. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Davis, and then spent six years in costume design and a further seven in retail management before following her goal of becoming a professor.
Dighton was one of just 50 “Love of Learning” awardees in the nation, selected from 1,000 applicants. She will receive a monetary award, to help fund her post-graduate studies and career development.
