July 1919 — July 2012

Carl Milton Peterson

POSTED July 31, 2012 9:26 p.m.

Carl Milton Peterson passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at Covenant Village Care Center in Turlock, CA.  He was born in Denair, CA, to Gus and Teckla Peterson.  He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Caleb and Conrad; his first wife, Viola Johnson Peterson; and his second wife, Esther Thorsen Peterson.

Milton graduated from Turlock High School in 1937.  From 1942-46, he worked as an aircraft mechanic in the US Air Force (Corp), stationed in Deming, New Mexico.  His specialty was AT 11 twin-engine bombardier trainer aircraft.

He was first married in 1954 to Viola Johnson of Berkeley, CA.  They had one son, Paul “Pete” Peterson.  After the passing of Viola, Milton was married to Esther Thorsen Peterson of Turlock in 1975.

In 1949, Milton continued his career as a mechanic at J & B Motors, Turlock’s Studebaker dealership.  When that dealership closed in 1965, Milton transferred to Bonander Pontiac as a master mechanic, until his retirement in 1984.  His love for cars was evident in the way he took care of his two Studebakers, a blue 1963 GT Hawk and an olive green 1964 Cruiser.  Milton was always giving of his expertise as a mechanic to family and friends.

Milton was an active member of the Crossroads Evangelical Free Church in Turlock and loved the Lord deeply.  He could often be spotted around the church buildings checking to make sure all the door hinges were greased.

Milton is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Danette Peterson of Turlock; and grandchildren Megan Peterson and Kyle Peterson of Seattle, WA.

Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Mortuary.  There will be a private family graveside service at Turlock Memorial Park followed by an open celebration of life memorial at Allen Mortuary on Friday, August 3, at 10 a.m.

We wish to thank the staff at Covenant Village for their loving, caring support of Milton and our family during this most difficult time.  The family requests that contributions be made to Covenant Village Benevolent Fund, 2125 N. Olive Ave, Turlock, CA  95380.
