Maria Amelia Bettencourt, 83, of Hilmar, died April 13 in Turlock. Maria was born in 1927 in Crusalo, Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores. She was a homemaker for 41 years and a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church of Turlock. 
She is survived by sons, Jose Bettencourt, Louis Bettencourt, John Bettencourt, Agnel Bettencourt and Greg Bettencourt, all of Hilmar; daughters, Yvonne Enes, Matilda Toledo, Fatima Castro and Ana Bettencourt, all of Hilmar and Florinda Silva of Turlock; sisters, Angela Agueda of Turlock and Natalia Teixeira of Azores; brother, Joao Azevedo of Azores; sister-in-law, Delores Azevedo of Stevinson; 23 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Bettencourt on Feb. 13, 1995; and sisters, Gregorio Azevedo and Serafim Azevedo.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 at Whitehurst, Norton and Dias Chapel. Rosary/Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 S. Walnut Ave., Turlock. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 18 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park.
