Keeping teddy healthy

POSTED June 10, 2011 8:28 p.m.

Volunteers from Emanuel Medical Center spent Friday diagnosing illnesses like “o-best-ity,” “Fuzzy thrombosis” and “loneny heart syndrome.” Their patients were teddy bears, unicorns, and even a stuffed frog named Brian. The annual Teddy Bear Clinic is an Emanuel Medical Center outreach program, where volunteers carefully examine young children’s stuffed animals and diagnose them with a number of fictional problems. The goal of the event is to teach children that a doctor visit is nothing to be afraid of. Children took home a treatment sheet for their ill or injured teddies, including instructions like “hug your stuffed friend at least 3x per day.”
