Hilmar resident Sherri Flanery contemplated a “Moonstruck” package of fireworks at the Phantom Fireworks stand sponsored by the Turlock Freewill Baptist Church at the corner of Monte Vista and Geer on Tuesday. The church said last year they sold $22,000 worth of fireworks and raised $5,000 during the fundraiser, which helps send kids to summer church camp. Fireworks stands opened Tuesday throughout Turlock. About 85 percent of sales are made on July 3 and 4. In order to avoid long lines and get the best fireworks, organizations urge buyers to come in early.
