Man killed in farm accident

POSTED July 26, 2011 10:19 p.m.

A Turlock man was killed Monday afternoon trying to free a piece of farm equipment that had become bogged down in the soft dirt.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 44-year-old Juan Pineda.

The accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. Monday at a ranch in the 10000 block of August Avenue.

Stanislaus County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejeran said Pineda had chained the stuck equipment to his truck in an effort to pull it free. Pineda was adjusting the tow line when one of the vehicles slid backward and pinned him between the two vehicles.

Bejeran did not know what kind of farm equipment was involved.

Pineda was pronounced dead at the scene.
