Fifty-four of the 42,262 San Francisco Giants fans that packed AT&T Park’s stands on Sunday had more to celebrate than just their team’s fourth straight series victory. For this special group of fans, the game was a way to remember their friend and loved one, Michael Wigt, who passed away on June 14.

The group of friends donned orange and black shirts with Wigt’s name and birth date printed on them and boarded a bus Sunday morning to watch a baseball game and remember the good times they had with their lost compatriot.

“We’re here to go have fun with some friends and remember Mike,” said Kristi Cronan.

Wigt was employed by the Turlock Irrigation District at the time of his death and was a third-generation firefighter with the Westport Fire Department. He died tragically by electrocution while doing home repairs.

His death was a shock to the many people whose lives he touched.

“Michael was one of my kids — he hung out at my house all the time,” said family friend Barbara Wilkes.
