Residents all across Turlock turned on their porch lights, locked their front doors and joined their neighbors for National Night Out on Tuesday. Neighborhoods across the city held block parties and were visited by police and fire department officials.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

“It does give you an incentive to watch out for each other,” said Turlock resident April Walker, who helped organize her block party on Sunshine Way.
