Hughson Nut teamed up with Cenergy Power to complete one of the largest solar photovoltaic systems in the area with a 50,000-square-foot almond processing facility on Verduga Road in Hughson.

According to Cenergy Power, the newly constructed 586-kilowatt system will produce nearly one million kilowatt hours of clean energy annually for the blanching, dry roasting, and cutting lines for producing sliced, slivered, diced and milled almonds. This is the equivalent of removing about 730 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, or planting 140 acres of pine forest a year.

Hughson Nut is a processor for the confectionary, bakery, cereal, health and snack food industries.

Hughson Nut principal owner Martin Pohl said the photovoltaic system will help the almond processor to meet its “dual goals of environmental sustainability while reducing energy costs for the benefit of our growers and partners.”

This was the second project Cenergy Power completed for Hughson Nut. Over a year ago Cenergy Power completed a 504-kilowatt system for a related nut hulling business.
