Streets are flooded in a northeast neighborhood in Turlock.

The rain fell and the winds blew this past weekend — as predicted — and the City of Turlock fared pretty well in the first big storm of the winter season. In fact, some residents took advantage of the temporarily flooded streets to get in some kayaking.

The rain gauge atop the Turlock Irrigation District's Canal Drive office recorded about 1.92 inches of rainfall has come down since last Tuesday. That's a good amount of rain for Turlock, but nothing near the five-plus inches many forecasters statewide were predicting to come down over the weekend.

Wind gusts reached 32 mph on Sunday, according to TID weather observations, but stayed under 20 mph for most of the weekend.

TID reported two power outages over the weekend, one early Friday morning and one Sunday morning, both in the area of Soderquist Road near South Avenue. Both outages lasted less than an hour and were due to vegetation getting swept into power lines.

More rain is in the forecast for today, according to the National Weather Service, but then mostly sunny skies are expected through the end of the week.
