Giants' World Series trophies make unexpected Turlock stop

The Giants' World Series trophies take a corner seat at Wellington's Pub and Restaurant during an unexpected stop on their tour.

Local San Francisco Giants fans were given a unique opportunity to bask in their team’s success Wednesday afternoon when the World Champions Trophy Tour made an unexpected stop at Wellington’s Pub and Restaurant.

San Francisco’s manager of community relations, Albert Jaimes, and his partner made the impromptu stop in Turlock for a lunch break before their scheduled stop in Atwater. Rather than leave the trophies in the car, they decided to let some lucky Turlockers enjoy them while they ate their meal.

“We were hungry and on our way to Atwater. Somebody said to stop by Wellington's so we came by,” Jaimes said. “We figured it would be a great opportunity for the local folks here.”

Wellington’s is a known hotspot for local Giants fans, apparent from the number of news clippings and photos from San Francisco’s World Series runs that adorn the wall.

“Somebody said we were big Giants fans, this was the place everybody came to watch the Giants games, so they pulled in here,” owner Tony Walker said. “It’s exciting; it’s a total surprise.”

Wednesday's private stop in Turlock was the 14th of the tour. The trophies are headed to Arizona, before coming back to California on March 2. The full tour schedule can be found at http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/fan_forum/trophy_tour.jsp
