With the 2010 U.S. Census complete, Stanislaus County is now mired in the laborious process of redrafting its Supervisorial districts.

On Monday, Turlockers will have their chance to weigh in on how those districts should be drawn.

The meeting, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the Yosemite Room of Turlock City Hall, located at 156 S. Broadway, is intended to allow members of the public to comment on what they deem as “communities of interest.” Community members could, for example, comment that Turlock and Denair should be in the same supervisorial district, or that Modesto and Turlock should be separated.

The boundaries of each of Stanislaus County’s five supervisorial districts must be drawn to equally divide population between districts – as evenly as possible – and to not separate communities of interest. Input received through the public meeting process will affect the final district boundaries.

The Turlock meeting is just the first of six public meeting that will be held across the county to solicit feedback on redistricting.
