Filing period extended for 5 local races

POSTED August 12, 2011 9:21 p.m.

For many races, the candidate filing deadline for the Nov. 8 Consolidated District Election closed Friday at 5 p.m.

But for those races where all incumbents did not file for reelection – including the Turlock Unified School District race — the filing period has been extended to Aug. 17.

Also up for the extended application period: the Hughson Fire Protection District, Keyes Community Service District, Keyes Union School District and Denair Unified School District.

For more information on joining those races, potential candidates can visit the County Clerk-Recorder/Elections Office, 1021 I St., Room 101, Modesto, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., visit stanvote.com, or phone 525-5200 or 535-5230 for assistance in Spanish.

At the close of the regular candidate filing period, some races were already decided.

Running unopposed, Rob Santos will continue to hold the Turlock Irrigation District Board of Directors District 4 seat. The other TID seat up for grabs, the District 2 seat held by Michael Frantz, will see Frantz face off with businessman and farmer Christopher Barth.

Denair Municipal Advisory Council incumbents Cheryl Zumstein and Dennis R. Findley will retain their seats, as will the Chatom Union School District, Denair Community Service District, Hughson Unified School District, and Keyes Municipal Advisory Council incumbents. TUSD short-term incumbent Tami Harril-Muniz will also retain her seat, running unopposed.
