POSTED March 9, 2018 6:37 p.m.

The City of Turlock Municipal Services Department will celebrate its annual Go Green Week next week, March 12-16. Go Green Week is the City’s primary environmental education campaign and is coordinated each year with participating schools throughout Turlock. Through a partnership involving City staff, teachers, administrators, community organizations and volunteers, students learn about conservation and pollution prevention strategies such as recycling, composting, water conservation and waste reduction.

The program provides students from K-12th grade a variety of hands-on learning activities such as: school site visits by local business representatives, tree plantings, recycling contests, a district wide “Wear Green Day”, green awareness wristbands for students to wear throughout the week and much more.

In conjunction with Go Green Week, the City’s Bus Line Service, Turlock Transit, will be offering free rides for all passengers on fixed routes, all week long through March 17.

Now in its 11th year, the Go Green Program has helped to divert over 19,000 pounds of material from the landfill, plant 222 trees and assist with fundraising efforts to raise over $11,000 for the schools through recycling contests. With nearly 12,000 student and faculty participants, Go Green Week seeks to engage students in activities to improve their schools and the environment as well as inspire participation in solutions for a sustainable future.

If you would like to learn more about the City’s Go Green Week program, please call (209) 668- 5590 or visit Brought to you by the City of Turlock Municipal Services Department.
