An off-duty law enforcement officer was involved in a shooting early Friday morning, but there were no injuries, reported the Turlock Police Department.

At approximately 2:53 a.m. Friday, Turlock Police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 2000 block of Waring Road. Once on scene, investigators found an off-duty police officer who said he fired his weapon at a truck that was coming toward him. The off-duty officer told investigators he had heard suspicious sounds in the area and suspected criminal activity. He then saw a pickup truck drive over a lawn and into the driveway of a residence.

When the off-duty officer attempted to investigate, the truck sped across the driveway and towards him, he told Turlock Police. That is when the off-duty officer shot at the truck. The truck was last seen off southbound Waring Road.

Turlock Police said there have been no reports of shooting-related injuries at area hospitals and the off-duty officer was not injured.

The off-duty officer is a member of an allied law enforcement agency, according to Turlock Police, and that agency has been notified of the incident. The allied agency will be conducting an administrative investigation on the incident, while Turlock Police conduct a criminal investigation.

The off-duty officer’s name is being withheld, pending the investigation.

The truck involved in the incident is described as a newer model midsized white pickup with a utility rack in the bed.
