Hilmar man assaulted

POSTED October 11, 2011 9:49 p.m.

A Hilmar man is recovering from a blow to the head with a baseball bat and law enforcement is searching for his attackers.

The attack happened shortly before 11 p.m. Friday in the 7000 block of Lander Avenue.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, came home Friday night to find two women and two men in his driveway. One of the women had been staying at his home, but had been kicked out by him because of some recent problems, Merced County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said.

The victim got out of his car and was immediately besieged by the two men. He told the sheriff’s investigators he was hit on the head with a baseball bat and then he blacked out.

When he came to he found his wallet and cell phone gone and his attackers had vanished, MacKenzie said.

The victim was able to get inside his home and a friend contacted the sheriff’s department.

The first deputy on the scene saw pools of blood on the doorstep and found the victim in bed with a large, bleeding gash on the side of his head, Mackenzie said.

The victim refused to go to the hospital.

The men who attacked him were described as Hispanic. They were last seen driving towards Turlock in a white Nissan Altima.
