Woman arrested for hitting child with stick

A woman who was allegedly seen striking her child with a stick was arrested Thursday morning, the Turlock Police Department reported.

Sofia Gonzalez, 51, was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, according to the police report.

A witness reportedly saw Gonzalez hitting her 10-year-old daughter with a stick and contacted the police department about the incident.

The incident was reported around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of N. Golden State Boulevard and W. Canal Drive.

According to the police report, officers saw marks on the girl from the stick, as well as marks caused by pinching.

Gonzalez was placed under arrest and the girl was placed with Child Protective Services.
