The Merced County Sheriff’s Department has launched a search for a Planada man who has been missing for three months.

The missing man, Rafael Maldonado, 43, was last seen on Sept. 19 by family members, according to the sheriff’s department. He was reported missing on Sept. 23.

Sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said Maldonado has a habit of taking off for a day or two, but always called home within a short time period.

During the investigation detectives learned he may be headed south to Bakersfield.
