Rumors of violence at schools unfounded

Rumors on social media sites speculating violent encounters at Turlock’s two high schools prompted additional police patrols at both sites, but no problems were reported.

There were unspecified threats of violence floating around social media sites in response to the Mayan calendar end of the world predictions set for Friday.

Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis said additional officers were present at both Turlock and Pitman high schools on Friday, along with the regularly posted school resource officers.
