The Turlock Police Department has arrested a 33-year-old man on allegations he sexually assaulted a minor for three years.

Robert Daniel Gomes of Turlock was taken into custody Friday and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child, sodomy, oral copulation, and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The sexual assault allegedly began three years ago when the victim was 13 years old. She is now 16 years old and just told her mother about the alleged abuse, Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Webb said.

Gomes met the girl while dating the mother, Webb said.

The allegations were brought to the police on Friday and an arrest was made that day.

Gomes remains in custody in lieu of a $500,000 bail.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that there could be other victims. Anyone with information on the case or Gomes is asked to contact Detective Timothy Redd at 668-5550 ext. 6625.
