Man grabs purse in thwarted robbery

A man donning a strange disguise that violated all fashion rules, tried to rob a check cashing store Friday morning.

The suspect was described as about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a beige poncho, blue jeans, small white socks on his hands, and a green scarf wrapped around his face.

The suspect walked into the Money Mart store at 130 Lander Ave. around 9 a.m. Friday and handed the teller a robbery note. The note stated he would blow up the business if she “did anything abnormal,” according to the Turlock Police Department.

The woman fled to the back of the store and called police.

The suspect grabbed the purse belonging to a customer in the store and fled.

No cash was taken from the business.
