Suicide by train reported

POSTED May 10, 2011 9:32 p.m.

Investigators with the Turlock Police Department are trying to determine the identity of a man who stepped into the path of an oncoming train Sunday.

Investigators are treating the death as a suicide. The man had no identification on him. Turlock Police Investigations Sgt. Russ Holeman said they are checking missing persons reports and fingerprint records in an effort to determine the man’s identity.

The incident was reported shortly after noon on Sunday in the 1100 block area of N. Front St.

According to the witnesses’ statements, the adult man stepped onto the tracks and turned his back toward the oncoming train.

Holeman said by all accounts, “it was an intentional act.”

That same area has been the site of three other suicides by train in the last few years.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man is asked to contact the Turlock Police Department at 668-5550.
