The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees honored Oliver Middaugh on Tuesday for his 25 years of service to the district. Middaugh spent the last quarter of a century as a district maintenance worker.

“How do I feel to be retiring? Relieved,” Middaugh joked.

Board President Frank Lima presented Middaugh with a pen and his thanks on behalf of the board. He read a list of Middaugh’s responsibilities over the last 25 years, which included everything from fixing boilers to installing playground equipment to replacing chalk boards. He worked maintenance at every school in the district and the district office.

“Mr. Middaugh’s years of service are deeply appreciated,” Lima said.

Middaugh’s oldest daughter Katie Mackey was in the audience for her father’s retirement ceremony. She remembers seeing her dad around campus when she was a little girl. She said that Middaugh was known as “Katie’s dad” and later “Chelsie’s dad” around campus. 

“I was always careful not to break anything,” Mackey joked.

Now that he is retired, Middaugh said that he would like to do some traveling. He has a trip planned to go to Alaska to see his in-laws, and hopefully see all of Mt. McKinley.

“I’ll be doing some traveling and enjoying my life,” Middaugh said.
