UC Merced hosts Korean students

POSTED July 26, 2012 5:15 p.m.

Fifteen engineering students from Dankook University in Yongin, Gyeonggi, South Korea, travelled 5,700 miles to study at UC Merced.

The students took part in a three week program, engaging in hands-on research through the UC Advanced Solar Technologies Institute. The visit marks the first time UC Solar has hosted students for such a program.

Headquartered at UC Merced’s Castle Research Center, UC Solar specializes in solar energy research.

Students explored solar collector and concentrators, optics, and photovoltaic systems, combining research time with lectures and personal research projects. Students also visited the hydroelectric facilities owned by the Merced Irrigation District, and travelled to the Intersolar North American conference in San Francisco.
