Education foundation holds tailgate party to support Kaepernick

POSTED January 25, 2013 7:26 p.m.

A community-wide celebration of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is planned for the day before he makes his debut in the Super Bowl arena.

The Turlock Education Foundation is hosting “Turlock Believes,” a community tailgate party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at Pitman High School.

Kaepernick’s performance as the 49ers quarterback and the team’s rise to the Super Bowl has inspired the community and the foundation wanted a venue for the public to celebrate.

“We’re thrilled to see our very own in the Super Bowl,” said Turlock Education Foundation President Barney Gordon. “Not only is Kaepernick a role model for our youth, but he has renewed Turlock’s sense of pride in our community. We’re excited to see him play a big part in bringing home the Niners sixth Super Bowl win.”

The event will offer food and product vendors, as well as opportunities for fans of all ages to participate in fun activities, take pictures, record videos and send notes of encouragement to Kaepernick. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own BBQs to tailgate. As the event will occur on school property no propane, alcohol or tobacco will be permitted at the event.

Pitman High School is located at 2525 W. Christoffersen Parkway in Turlock.

The non-profit Turlock Education Foundation was founded in 2011 by a partnership of parents, community members, and local businesses. Its intent is to bridge the gap in unpredictable and insufficient education funding from the state government.
