Sacred Heart celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Students from Sacred Heart School sing tunes from the “Muppets Movie” in front of their friends and family members during a Catholic Schools Week event on Friday.

As parishes across the nation celebrate Catholic Schools Week, students at Sacred Heart School in Turlock marked the annual event with a jog-a-thon, open house, and musical presentation.

From special masses to open houses, Sacred Heart found ways to mirror the National Catholic Schools Week theme of “Catholic Schools Raise the Standard. " This initiative seeks to ensure that these high standards are met at catholic schools across the country.

“Catholic Schools Week teaches strong values and good moral issues,” said Mary Jane Scheuber, a grandmother at SHS.  “It brings the entire family together because it involves lots of parent participation.”

CSW kicked off Sunday with a special school mass followed by an open house and faculty appreciation day luncheon on Monday provided by the parents of Sacred Heart.

“On Tuesday, the students participated in a jog-a-thon to raise money for the school,” said Sacred Heart Administrative Assistant Linda Travis.  “The school raises about $7,000 through this event. The students enjoy participating in this event every year.”

On Friday, hundreds of parents and family members gathered around the school gymnasium for a fine arts show and musical presentation from the “Muppets Movie.”

“It’s good to celebrate and do fun things,” said parent Anne Frost.  “Our faith is important.  Catholic Schools Week is a time to thank those who help us make each year a success.”
