STOCKTON — The James Peterson-coached South team looked ripe for a comeback against the North in the 38th annual Central California Lions All-Star Football Game on Saturday night at the University of Pacific’s Stagg Memorial Stadium. Three straight turnovers, including a late-game interception, spelled down for Peterson, the Turlock High coach, and his all-stars in a 21-6 loss.

The South led early on, thanks to Ravonne Pious’ 29-yard touchdown pass to Herbert Whitehurst in the first quarter. But the North rallied and never looked back, forcing the South into inevitable mistakes.

Peterson was one of four participants from the Turlock area in the annual event. He had two former players on the all-star lineup in running back/wide receiver Ricky Fuentes and linebacker Connor Pearson. Hilmar High graduate Trent Goiburn also participated in the game.
