Denair, TC represented in all-star game

5 locals to take field in annual event

POSTED June 24, 2011 7:52 p.m.

With Turlock High and Pitman High players overtaking the large-school roster in today’s other half of the 22nd Stanislaus County All-Star Baseball Classic at John Thurman Field in Modesto, schools like Denair High and Turlock Christian High are also making an imprint in the small-school game.

And that’s fine with them.

Three Eagles from the Turlock Christian program will represent the West Small-School team with three players and Denair with two. Those players are outfielder Dominick Walker and infielders Brent Abraham and John Westburg, with the first two players being seniors while Westburg will return for one last high school season. For the Coyotes, they have pitcher/shortstop Trevor Werner and pitcher/catcher Zak Bailey to represent the program in the small-school game at 3:05 p.m.

The large-school contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Both Denair (9-9 overall) and Turlock Christian (7-16-1) endured long seasons in 2011, but the Coyotes and Eagles will return a number of starters, including a few of them having participated in today’s all-star game at Thurman Field.
